About us:

The Chair of Biochemistry and Chemistry conducts experimental research projects in the field of (glyco-)biochemistry and glycobiology. This doctoral position focuses on lectin interactions with (glyco-)ligands of zoonotic pathogens. Using biochemical and multi-omics techniques, novel lectin ligands are to be identified and characterised. Recombinant production and engineering of relevant ligands will be carried out. The aim is to modulate immune cell function through targeted lectin intervention. Lectin functions in physiological processes as well as in the context of infection and inflammation will be investigated using suitable models.

We are looking for you:

Doctoral Student (m/f/x)

  • Independently developing and applying methodologies in molecular biology, analytical biochemistry, infection biology, and immunology
  • Collecting, analysing, and presenting experimental data
  • Drafting scientific publications and research grant applications
  • Contributing to teaching activities (including the supervision of laboratory practicals and MSc students)

Your qualifications:

  • Excellent university Master’s degree (in Biochemistry, Biology, or a related discipline) or veterinary licence to practise (tierärztliche Approbation)
  • Experience with molecular biological, biochemical, or cell biological techniques
  • Independent, meticulous work ethic, high motivation, and a keen interest in scientific research within (glyco-)biochemistry
  • Willingness to participate in animal experimental work, where applicable
