Science and Mathematics invites applications for the position of
Student Research Assistant
The starting date of this position can be agreed individually (planned: 1 December 2026) with a
working time of 10 hours per week on a one-year fixed-term contract. Remuneration is EUR 15.20 per
hour or EUR 16.70 per hour for master’s students. If you meet the requirements for the higher
compensation rate, you will be assigned more advanced tasks.
The position is funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space within the research
project “Quantum Computing for ErUM” (QC4ErUM).
Project description:
The student research assistant, who is ideally studying M.Sc. Computer Science or M.Sc. Artificial
Intelligence Engineering at University of Passau, will support the research project QC4ErUM.
Key responsibilities:
- Collaborate in a distributed research project on quantum software and data engineering
- Support research activities including literature research, data retrieval, data preparation and
analysis, follow-up-survey preparation.
- Assist with data cleaning.
- Assist with organisational tasks related to the project.
- Assist the implementation and evaluation of research software prototypes
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree: in computer science, physics, mathematics, or a related field
- Excellent programming skills and a solid background in software and data engineering in Python
- Expertise in data processing and analysis
- Interest in quantum software engineering
- Excellent command of English, both spoken and written
- Knowledge of German is advantageous but not a requirement
- A high degree of reliability, diligence, and self-organization, combined with strong analytical
skills, independent problem solving, and the ability to quickly grasp new technical concepts.
