The Institute of Physics, Department of Surface and Interfacial Physics, at Martin Luther University Halle

Wittenberg is seeking a full-time

Research Engineer (m/f/d)

on a permanent basis, starting from 1 August 2026.

Remuneration will be in accordance with the duties assigned and fulfilment of personal requirements, up to

pay grade 12 TV-L.

Job responsibilities:

  • Technical support for scientific equipment used in surface physics, in particular angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy
  • Conducting and evaluating experiments in surface physics
  • Supervision and methodological responsibility for staff in the conduct and analysis of experiments
  • Development and implementation of scientific software
  • Responsibility for sub-projects in research, in particular photoemission experiments
  • Preparation and maintenance of technical documentation for experiments and systems

Requirements:

  • A University degree in physics, engineering or a comparable subject, and several years’ professional experience in the field of physical analytics
  • Experience in conducting experiments in surface physics and with vacuum-based setups
  • Basic knowledge of programming and software development
  • Several years’ experience in handling laboratory equipment
  • Strong technical and physical understanding
  • Independent, structured and solution-oriented approach to work
  • Ability to work in a team and to take on responsibility and lead projects independently
  • Good English language skills
  • German skills are preferred, or a willingness to learn German
