At Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, Faculty of Natural Sciences II, Institute of Chemistry, the
Research Training Group (GRK) 2670 “Amphiphily Plus: Self-Organization of Soft Matter through Multiple
Non-Covalent Interactions,” a fixed-term position is available starting January 1, 2027, through December 31,
2029, for a
Research Associate (m/f/d)
on a part-time basis (65%).
Remuneration will be determined based on job duties and responsibilities and will be aligned with the
fulfillment of listed personal requirements, up to pay grade 13 under the TV-L (Tarifvertrag für den
Öffentlichen Dienst der Länder – ‚German Public Service Pay Agreement for the Federal States‘).
In the GRK 2670, which has once again received funding from the DFG, up to 25 doctoral candidates per
year will be able to conduct research in the coming years on various aspects of the structure and dynamics
of soft matter through intermolecular interactions. The GRK is aimed in particular at doctoral students in
chemistry, physics, biochemistry, mathematics, and related fields. This position is part of Project N4, which
is led by Project Director Prof. Dr. Matthias Karg.
Work tasks:
- Research activities: Synthesis and characterization of catechol-containing copolymer microgels; investigation of structure-property relationships
- Structural analysis using small-angle neutron scattering, microscopy, and dynamic and static light scattering
- Responsibility for equipment used in angle-dependent light scattering and atomic force microscop
- Successful participation in the GRK2670 training program
- Preparation of publications, presentations, and a dissertation including the presentation of research findings at national and international conferences

Requirements:
- A completed academic degree in chemistry (Master’s/Diploma) or a comparable field
- Expertise in polymer synthesis and characterization
- Expertise in physicochemical methods (dynamic light scattering, extinction spectroscopy)
- Knowledge of small-angle scattering (neutron, X-ray) is desirable
- Knowledge of the analysis of scattering profiles, particularly shape and structure factor analysis, is desirable
- Knowledge In the study of nanoscale systems, the following are desirable
- Expertise in the quantitative evaluation of physicochemical measurement data using data analysis software
- Excellent command of English; experience in preparing scientific presentations in English.
- Ability to work as part of a team, resilience and organisational skills
