About us
ICBM is an interdisciplinary research institute for fundamental and applied marine research. The internationally renowned institute aims at understanding the functioning of marine environmental systems through close cooperation of the various scientific disciplines (chemistry, biology, physics, mathematical modelling) of its more than 20 research groups. The position is associated with the working group of Biogeochemical Ocean Modeling at ICBM.
Your tasks
The successful candidate will further develop a biogeochemical model on marine and sedimentary carbon and nutrient dynamics to assess benthic-marine elemental fluxes. A central aspect of the position is the coupling of an existing sedimentary model (OMEN-SED) with an ocean model within an Earth System Model, which focuses on marine dissolved organic matter dynamics (MICDOC).
The candidate will be responsible for realizing the model coupling and for conducting numerical simulations to investigate benthic-marine fluxes of carbon and nutrients in different climate scenarios. In addition, the position involves disseminating research results through publications in peer-reviewed journals and presenting findings at national and international conferences.
Your profile
Required skills and experience:
- University degree (diploma or master, not from a University of Applied Sciences) in the field of mathematics
- Excellent PhD in the field of Geosciences, Planetary Sciences or Earth Sciences
- Documented experience in numerical modeling in the Earth Sciences context, e.g. sediment models, including modification of source code
- Own scientific standing exemplified by published articles in peer-reviewed journals and presentation in international conferences
