The Chair for Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Chemistry at the Institute for Pharmacy and Food Chemistry at the Julius-

Maximilians-Universität Würzburg (JMU), Germany, is inviting applications for a

PhD Position in Pharmaceutical/Medicinal Chemistry (m/f/d).

The contract can start as of January 1st 2027 and will be fixed-term for an initial period of three years. The position is

part time (50%), and remuneration will be according to the Tarifvertrag für den öffentlichen Dienst der Länder (collective

agreement for the public service of German federal states, TV-L).

The topic with deal with an up-to-date topic of medicinal chemistry, like photopharmacology or compound synthesis

and pharmacological evaluation of compounds against neurodegenerative disorders.

The applicant should:

 hold a research Master’s degree in Chemistry or in a related subject within the field of Life Sciences;

 alternatively a Pharmacy degree (“2. Staatsexamen” or equivalent),

 have interest in developing and/or applying novel chemical probes to investigate biological functions,

 have sound knowledge of organic chemistry, both in theory and in the lab,

 have a strong interest in interdisciplinary work and commitment to work in Life Sciences,

 be self-motivated and able to work independently,

 and possess good knowledge of English.

The successful candidate will get the opportunity to work in an international team on an up-to-date topic in medicinal

chemistry and present the work in an international environment. This can also include a research stay at one of our

international collaborators’ labs.
