The Faculty of Social Science and Historical Cultural Studies, Institute of Psychology, at Martin Luther

University Halle-Wittenberg is seeking a part-time (65% / 26h/wk)

Research Associate / Doctoral Student

for a fixed term of 2 years and 3 months, starting from 1.1.2027.

Remuneration will be based on pay grade E13 under the TV-L (Tarifvertrag für den Öffentlichen Dienst der

Länder – ‚German Public Service Pay Agreement for the Federal States‘).

The Department of Methodology is seeking a doctoral student for the DFG project

„The “everyone does” vs. “some do and some don’t” perspective on multitasking: Constraining explanations

for dual-tasking effects by analyzing their interindividual variability through the lens of mixture modeling“.

The goal of the project is to use novel statistical and experimental methods to empirically answer questions

about how we do things and other questions from the field of cognitive psychology.

Job Responsibilities:

  • The dissertation project
  • Research (preparing, executing, analyzing studies)
  • Writing (publications and reports on research)
  • Presenting research at conferences
  • Organizational duties relating to the research project

Requirements:

  • University degree (Master’s or equivalent) in a pertinent discipline (e.g., psychology, cognitive science..)
  • Required language skills: Very good English; Desirable but optional: German
  • Data analysis skills, willingness to extend these skills (mainly using MCMC methods in R)
  • ideally: programming skills for experiments (e.g., JavaScript for online experiments; no reliance on LLMs)

expertise in dual-tasking and Bayesian multi-level modeling

  • experience with scientific presentations and/or publications
  • ability to plan and execute tasks independently
  • Familiarity with quantitative empirical research methods
  • Teamwork and good communication skills

We offer:

  • public service employment with remuneration according to the Tarifvertrag der Länder (TV-L) (‘Collective

Agreement for the Public Service’) including an annual special payment and a company pension
