The Institut für Pathologie of the University Medical Center Göttingen is looking for a new position for the earliest start date

Postdoctoral Researcher (f/m/d) – Life Scientist / Microscopist

full time, 38,5 hours per week, 31.01.2029

Our research group “Innovative Microscopy Technologies” develops and applies advanced microscopy methods for pathology, with a focus on 3D tissue imaging. We offer a postdoctoral position in our HILIGHTS project to advance precision 3D diagnostics of chronic kidney disease, combining light‑sheet microscopy with targeted tissue microsampling (“histolithography”) for on‑chip protein profiling.

The position is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) within the Photonics programme and is carried out in close collaboration with pathologists and industry partners. As a postdoctoral scientist, you will perform multimodal imaging-driven research in a highly translational initiative to advance tissue analysis and uncover new mechanisms of chronic kidney disease.

Your tasks

Your tasks

  • Develop and optimize methods for optical tissue clearing and staining for integrated light-sheet microscopy and targeted 3D microdissection
  • Investigate structural changes and molecular signatures in pathological specimens with light‑sheet microscopy
  • Implement new detection fluorescence modalities for specific sample characterisation
  • Design and apply strategies for image-guided tissue microsampling for on‑chip protein profiling
  • Analyze and integrate imaging and proteomics data to uncover disease mechanisms and support biomarker discovery in chronic kidney disease

Your qualifications

Your qualifications

  • PhD in life or medical sciences, such as biology, (bio)chemistry, (bio)medical sciences, or related field.
  • Proven experience in advanced optical microscopy, ideally in volumetric imaging
  • Experience with image processing/analysis, basic Python skills for scripting are an advantage
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • High willingness to learn new methods and work in an interdisciplinary collaborative research environment

We offer

We offer

  • Work in an interdisciplinary team that operates at the intersection of development and clinical application
  • The opportunity to shape and drive innovative approaches in imaging and tissue analysis
  • A varied work environment with room for initiative and creative input
  • Support for professional growth through training and development opportunities
