In der am Fachbereich Gesellschaftswissenschaften der Goethe-Universität Frankfurt seit 2021 angesiedelten DFG-Forschungsgruppe RISS „Reconfiguration and Internalization of Social Structure“ ist zum 01.11.2026 die Stelle für eine*n 

Wissenschaftliche*n Mitarbeiter*in (m/w/d)
(E 13 TV-G-U) 

befristet bis zum 31.03.2030 zu besetzen. Die Eingruppierung richtet sich nach den Tätigkeitsmerkmalen des für die Goethe-Universität geltenden Tarifvertrages (TV-G-U). 

Die Forschungsgruppe befindet sich in der Fortsetzungsphase (RISS II) und besteht aus sieben Teilprojekten. Weitere Informationen über die Forschungsgruppe und die Einzelprojekte finden sich hier: https://www.riss.uni-frankfurt.de. 

Die Stelle ist im RISS CoRE-Projekt angesiedelt (https://www.riss.uni-frankfurt.de/180591978/RISS_II___Projekt_1), das gemeinsam von Prof. Dr. Daniela Grunow, Dr. Yassine Khoudja und Prof. Dr. Steffen Eger geleitet wird und eine zentrale Rolle in der Forschungsgruppe einnimmt. Das Projekt untersucht sozialstrukturellen Wandel aus multidimensionaler Perspektive und dessen Implikationen für sozialen Zusammenhalt und politischen Konflikt im europäischen Vergleich. Es baut auf Erkenntnissen der ersten Förderphase auf, in der wir u.a. innovative empirische Instrumente zur Beschreibung multidimensionalen sozialstrukturellen Wandels und der Messung sozialer Identität in Deutschland entwickelt haben. Diese Instrumente sollen in der Folgephase nun für die ländervergleichende Analyse auf europäischer Ebene weiterentwickelt und zur Untersuchung zentraler Forschungsfragen angewandt werden, wobei eigene methodische Vorschläge willkommen sind. Zudem nimmt das CoRE-Projekt eine koordinierende Rolle bei den projektübergreifenden Datenerhebungen der Forschungsgruppe ein. 

Der Aufgabenschwerpunkt der beworbenen Stelle liegt in der Beschreibung der Sozialstruktur aus multidimensionaler Perspektive im europäischen Vergleich und der Untersuchung von Zusammenhängen mit Indikatoren gesellschaftlichen Zusammenhalts. Aufbauend auf den Vorarbeiten der ersten Förderphase sollen die zentralen empirischen Instrumente konzeptionell weiterentwickelt und auf europäische Ebene übertragen werden. Damit verbunden ist die Aufbereitung und Harmonisierung sozialstruktureller europäischer Sekundärdaten (z.B. ESS, ISSP, EVS, CSES und weitere Datensätze) sowie die Analyse ihrer Zusammenhänge mit Einstellungen, Identitäten und politischem Verhalten. Hinzu kommt die Mitwirkung an der Koordination und Auswertung der geplanten Umfrage. Ergebnisse der Forschung sollen in begutachteten internationalen Fachzeitschriften veröffentlicht werden. 

Die Arbeit findet als Teil eines Teams statt, das eng zusammenarbeitet, um Aufgaben abzustimmen sowie Fortschritte und Schwierigkeiten produktiv zu besprechen. Als Koordinierungsprojekt arbeiten wir zudem eng mit den anderen Einzelprojekten der Forschungsgruppe zusammen, insbesondere bei der Datenerhebung. Workshops und Kolloquien der Forschungsgruppe sowie des Institute for Empirical-Analytical Research (InFER) bieten verschiedene Gelegenheiten zum interdisziplinären Austausch zwischen Soziologie und Politikwissenschaft. Die GRADE (Post)Graduierten Akademie der GU Frankfurt bietet außerdem gezielte Unterstützung für Early-Career Researcher. 

Einstellungsvoraussetzungen für eine erfolgreiche Bewerbung sind ein überdurchschnittlich abgeschlossenes wissenschaftliches Hochschulstudium (Master oder Äquivalent) im Bereich der Sozialwissenschaften, eine sehr gut abgeschlossene (oder zeitnah abzuschließende) Promotion in einem sozialwissenschaftlichen Fach (vorzugsweise Soziologie oder Politikwissenschaft), sehr gute Kenntnisse in quantitativer Sozialforschung, sowie Erfahrung in der Aufbereitung und Analyse von ländervergleichenden sozialwissenschaftlichen Datensätzen. Inhaltliche Schwerpunkte sollten in mindestens einem, idealerweise mehreren der folgenden Bereiche liegen: Sozialstrukturanalyse, politische Soziologie, politische Verhaltensforschung, öffentliche Meinung. Erwartet werden außerdem Erfahrungen mit Analysen aus multidimensionaler oder intersektionaler Perspektive in einem der Forschungsfelder, nachgewiesen durch (erste) Publikationen in national oder international begutachteten Fachzeitschriften.

Außerdem erforderlich sind exzellente Englischkenntnisse. Deutschkenntnisse sind keine Voraussetzung, aber vorteilhaft.

post-doctoral researcher (m/f/d)
(E13 TV-G-U) 

to be filled as of 01.11.2026. The position is fixed-term until 31.03.2030. The salary grade is based on the job characteristics of the collective agreement (TV-G-U) applicable to Goethe University.

The position is located within the RISS CoRE project (https://www.riss.uni-frankfurt.de/180591978/RISS_II___Projekt_1), jointly led by Prof. Dr. Daniela Grunow, Dr. Yassine Khoudja and Prof. Dr. Steffen Eger, which holds a central role within the Research Unit. The project investigates social structural change from a multidimensional perspective and its implications for social cohesion and political conflict in European comparison. It builds on findings from the first funding phase, in which we developed, among other things, innovative empirical instruments for describing multidimensional social structural change and for measuring social identity in Germany. In the continuation phase, these instruments are to be further developed for cross-national analysis at the European level and applied to central research questions, with own methodological proposals being welcome. In addition, the CoRE project takes on a coordinating role in the project-wide data collection of the Research Unit.

The main focus of the advertised position lies in describing social structure from a multidimensional perspective in European comparison and in examining its associations with indicators of social cohesion. Building on the preparatory work of the first funding phase, the central empirical instruments are to be developed further conceptually and transferred to the European level. This involves the preparation and harmonization of European secondary data on social structure (e.g. ESS, ISSP, EVS, CSES and further datasets), as well as the analysis of their associations with attitudes, identities and political behavior. In addition, the position involves contributing to the coordination and analysis of the planned survey. Research findings are to be published in peer-reviewed international journals.

The work takes place as part of a team that collaborates closely to coordinate tasks and to discuss progress and challenges constructively. As a coordination project, we also work in close cooperation with the other individual projects of the Research Unit, particularly in data collection. Workshops and colloquia of the Research Unit and of the Institute for Empirical-Analytical Research (InFER) offer various opportunities for interdisciplinary exchange between sociology and political science. GRADE, the graduate academy of the Goethe University Frankfurt, additionally provides targeted support for early-career researchers. 

Requirements for a successful application are a completed academic university degree with above-average grades (Master or equivalent) in the field of social sciences, an excellent, completed or soon-to-be completed doctorate in the field of social sciences (preferably sociology or political science), very good knowledge of quantitative social research, and experience in the preparation and analysis of cross-national social science datasets. 

Substantive focus areas should lie in at least one, ideally several, of the following areas: social structure analysis, political sociology, political behavior research, public opinion. Furthermore, we expect applicants to have experience with analyses from a multidimensional or intersectional perspective in one of these fields, demonstrated by (initial) publications in national or international peer-reviewed journals.

Excellent command of English is also required. Knowledge of German is not a prerequisite but is an advantage.
