Research Position (m/f/d) in the area of Quantitative Methods of Empirical Social Research

The research group Quantitative Methods of Empirical Social Research represents the field in research and teaching at the Faculty of Sociology at Bielefeld University. Research focuses include the collection and analysis of, in particular, longitudinal and cross-national survey data; the implementation and analysis of experimental research designs; and the linkage of different data sources, such as survey and regional data. Fields of application include topics such as social and political inequalities, with a focus on the situation of migrants and sexual minorities, as well as societal polarization and social cohesion.

Your Tasks

  • academic research duties (approx. 65%)
    • independent research in the area of quantitative empirical social research with the aim of completing a doctorate (PhD)
    • participation in the group’s research activities and in the preparation of third-party funding proposals
  • teaching duties (3 LVS) in quantitative methods training, especially the analysis of survey data using Stata, including advising and examining students (approx. 25%)
  • participation in research and third-party funding applications of the AG (approx. 10%)
    • organisational and administrative tasks, committee work
    • Collaboration in academic self-administration

The position is conducive to academic qualification; opportunities for further academic qualification are provided.

Your Profile

We expect

  • completed scientific university degree (e. g. Master or Diploma) in the social sciences or a related field, with a focus on quantitative methods
  • very good knowledge of methods in quantitative empirical social research (research designs, data collection and analysis methods)
  • good knowledge of the statistical software Stata (especially syntax)
  • independent, responsible, and committed working style
  • ability to work in a team as well as organizational and coordination skills, e. g. in organizing academic events such as lecture series or workshops
  • interest in analytical-empirical research (independently as well as in a team)
  • ability to write, present, and publish academic work in English, as well as advanced German language skills
     

Preferred experience and skills

  • interest in the group’s substantive research foci (political attitudes and behavior, social inequality, migration, sexual minorities, etc.)
  • teaching experience in quantitative empirical social research
  • interest in pursuing a doctorate (PhD)
