The Faculty of Psychology and Sports Science is one of 14 faculties at the Bielefeld University, Germany. The Department of Psychology, with its over 50-year history (founded in 1971), is one of the oldest departments at the university. Of the over 25,000 students at the Bielefeld University, the Faculty of Psychology and Sports Science comprises approximately 2,000 students. The Department of Psychology is rated among the best ones in Germany based on the CHE university ranking.

The research unit Differential and Personality Psychology, Psychological Assessment and Behavioural Genetics investigates the patterns and sources of personality development across the lifespan. In this context, personality is understood as a broad construct that integrates dispositions to typical behavioral patterns (e. g., emotion regulation and behavioral style), motivational and self-regulatory dispositions of behavioral differences (e. g., motives, interests, value orientations, and self-concept), cognitive abilities (e. g., intelligence and creativity), and physical characteristics (e. g., BMI and attractiveness) as important factors in interpersonal interactions.  The explanation of individual differences focuses on genetic, biological, and experiential (individual, social, and cultural) factors, as well as their interaction and interplay. The collection of complex data, the development, evaluation, and application of corresponding measurement and testing procedures are essential components in this regard, as are the use of complex study designs and data analysis methods.
 

Your Tasks

  • development and/or deepening of an own research topic that accords to the research areas of the research unit. (55 %)
  • scientific services in the context of research projects of the research unit (15 %)
  • participation in teaching activities of the department (3 hours per week during the semester; 25 %)
  • assistance with administrative tasks of the research unit (5 %)

Your Profile

We expect

  • a very good scientific acadamic degree (e. g. master’s degree or diploma) in Psychology
  • good knowledge of psychological methods and experience with using statistical programs
    (e. g., R, JASP, SPSS, Mplus, AMOS, etc.)
  • Excellent written and spoken German and good written and spoken English
  • prior knowledge and interest in personality psychology
  • capacity for teamwork
  • organizational skills
  • capacity for analytical thinking
     

Preferred experience and skills

  • prior knowledge and interest in methodological and/or diagnostic basic research
  • prior knowledge and interest inplanning and conducting complex longitudinal studies and/or behavioral genetic study designs
  • prior knowledge and interest in use and development of psychometric testing methods
