Part-time, 30 hours/week

Do you want to pursue an academic career or complement your studies with a PhD degree? If you are curious, data-savvy, and ambitious, this full PhD position offers an opportunity to join an internationally connected and young team.

What to expect

  • Writing a dissertation: You will be investigating your research topic and spending a third of your working hours on writing your dissertation. Regarding the topic of your research, we offer a good degree of flexibility and autonomy to the successful applicant, however, we expect research projects to be empirical within the area of international business, with a focus on AI, political institutions, or international finance.
  • Research, for yourself and others: You will be supporting publishing activities, collecting and analyzing firm-level quantitative data, and carrying out research of practical relevance with cooperation partners and companies. You are expected to conduct state-of-the-art research aimed at international journals and participate in grant applications.
  • Teaching and teaching support: You will be planning and teaching courses in the International Business field, providing support for exams, and conducting exams yourself.
  • Student support: You will be available to answer students’ questions, provide feedback on seminar papers, and act as a co-advisor for bachelor’s theses.
  • Organizational and administrative support: You will be organizing and evaluating teaching activities, planning exams, keeping the budget in mind, and acquiring third-party funding.
  • Learning from top researchers: You will be getting your own research career off to a great start by working together with renowned researchers in your field and learning from them.
  • Teamwork: You will be working to advance research in your field together with an experienced senior team and a vibrant young faculty.
  • Building up a professional network: You will be using the pre-doc phase to create your own professional network for the future at international conferences and visits.

What you have to offer

  • Degree: We are looking for applicants with a strong academic record, including a completed relevant Master’s degree (MSc or equivalent), that qualifies for enrolment in a doctoral program at WU. Degrees in International Business and/or Data Science are an asset.
  • Communication skills: For research purposes, we expect you to have excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Data analysis: Prior knowledge of data analysis techniques and software (R, STATA, or similar) is a plus, but not a must. However, the candidate must be willing to achieve proficiency in such applications over the course of the first years of employment.
  • Willingness to use multimedia teaching methods: You are willing to learn about using multimedia teaching and learning formats.
  • Working style: You work independently, show initiative, and have good self-organization skills.

The minimum monthly gross salary amounts to €2,832.08 (14 times per year). This salary may be adjusted based on job-related prior work experience. In addition, we offer a wide range of attractive social benefits.
