PhD Position – Platelet Lysate as a pro-regenerative therapeutic in SCI
Application open: 31st August 2026
Possible start of work: 1st October 2026
Job description:
Paracelsus Private Medical University (PMU) combines excellence in research and teaching in the fields of medicine, nursing and pharmacy. In an interdisciplinary, supportive environment, we are working to shape the future of healthcare.
The Institute of Molecular Regenerative Medicine at the Paracelsus Medical University (PMU) is offering a PhD position in spinal cord injury research within the PMU PhD program (Doctoral program in Medical Science / Paracelsus Medical Private University).
The Institute of Molecular Regenerative Medicine team focusses on mechanism and therapy development in spinal cord injury. Traumatic spinal cord injury (SCI) is a devastating condition that results in permanent neurological deficits and remains without effective regenerative therapies. This PhD project aims to investigate the therapeutic potential of human platelet lysate for the treatment of SCI, with the clear goal to develop a clinically translatable approach.
Candidate profile:
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic candidate who has:
- Masters degree in Neuroscience, Molecular Biology, Medical Biology, Pharmacology or equivalent (A Master’s degree must have been completed before the start of employment)
- Hands on experience in mammalian cell culture and standard cell biological techniques
- Experience in working under S2 conditions
- High level of accuracy, data documentation and organisation skills
- Strong interest in regenerative medicine
- Enthusiasm for setting up and learning new techniques in the laboratory
- Willingness to work with laboratory animals and complete the required training for animal experimentation.
Desirable additional qualifications:
- Hands-on experience with animal handling (rat and mouse) and modern CNS injury models
- Experience with complex co-culture and/or organoid models
- Bioinformatic skills
We particularly welcome applications from candidates who:
- have an open and communicative personality and embrace teamwork
- have good writing and communication skills (English)
- think creatively and critically
We offer:
The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary research environment working at the interface of neuroscience, biomaterials, and translational medicine. The project offers the opportunity to contribute to the development of a novel therapeutic strategy with clear clinical relevance while receiving comprehensive training in both in vitro and in vivo experimental approaches. The candidate will be encouraged to present their work at international conferences and publish in peer-reviewed journals.
The gross annual remuneration is EUR 39.343,36 based on a PhD position for 30 hours/week
