University Assistant Prae-Doc (all genders)
30 hours/week | limited to 4 years
At the Institute of Lightweight Design and Structural Biomechanics, in the Research Group for Structural and Material Simulation TU Wien is offering a position as university assistant prae-doc (all genders) limited to 4 years for 30 hours/week. Expected start: May 2026.
Tasks:
- Collaboration on research and teaching tasks as well as examinations
- Cooperation and guidance of students
- Research and project activity in the field of computational mechanics of materials
- Writing a dissertation and publications
- Participation in scientific events
- Assistance/Collaboration in organizational and administrative tasks
Your profile:
- A master degree in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, materials science, computational science and engineering or equivalent.
- Basic skills in academic research
- Required is sound knowledge at least in one of the following fields: Finite Element Method (theory and practice, linear and nonlinear), continuum mechanics of solids, nonlinear material modeling, damage and fracture mechanics
- Knowledge of a commercial finite element program (preferentially Abaqus), knowledge in the computation of composites, and programming skills in Python and/or Fortran are of advantage
- Very good skills in German and English communication and writing (niveau B2 according to CEFR)
- Interest in research in the field and in working with students
- Ability to work in a team, problem-solving skills, and innovative thinking

Entry level salary is determined by the pay grade B1 of the Austrian collective agreement for university staff. This is a minimum of currently EUR 2,832.10/month gross, 14 times/year for 30 hours/week. Relevant working experiences may increase the monthly income.
